Avian Influenza Report - Vol. 6, No. 48 - Reporting period: 21 to 27 November 2010 (Week 48) (Published on 30 November 2010, CHP HK)
Summary
1. There were no new reports of human infection of avian influenza H5N1 in the past week.
2. The latest case in Hong Kong affected a 59-year-old lady and was confirmed on November 17, 2010. She is now in stable condition and no secondary case was detected so far.
3. The serious response level under the Government's Preparedness Plan for Influenza Pandemic has been activated since November 17, 2010.
4. From 2005 to 2007, about 100 laboratory-confirmed cases of human avian influenza H5N1 were reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) annually.
In 2008 and 2009, 44 and 73 cases were confirmed respectively. In 2010 (as of November 27), 40 human cases of avian influenza A (H5N1) were confirmed.
