[h=1]Autoimmune hepatitis following influenza virus vaccination: Two case reports.[/h] Sasaki T[SUP]1[/SUP], Suzuki Y[SUP]1[/SUP], Ishida K[SUP]2[/SUP], Kakisaka K[SUP]1[/SUP], Abe H[SUP]1[/SUP], Sugai T[SUP]2[/SUP], Takikawa Y[SUP]1[/SUP].
[h=3]Author information[/h]
[h=3]Abstract[/h] [h=4]RATIONALE:[/h] Although immunization could possibly cause autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), to date, no cases of AIH have been reported secondary to influenza virus vaccination. This paper describes 2 women who developed AIH after receiving influenza virus vaccination.
[h=4]PATIENT CONCERNS AND DIAGNOSES:[/h] Two women presented with elevation of liver enzymes after receiving influenza virus vaccination. Both patients were diagnosed with AIH using the International Autoimmune Hepatitis Group criteria.
[h=4]INTERVENTION AND OUTCOMES:[/h] Both patients were treated with prednisolone. After the initiation of prednisolone, serum aminotransferase levels were observed to return to the reference range in both patients.
[h=4]LESSONS:[/h] Influenza virus vaccination could trigger the development of AIH. Clinicians should be mindful of the fact that AIH can occur after influenza virus vaccination.
