'Low' risk of Thursday Island skin disease reaching mainland

Health authorities say a skin disease outbreak on Thursday Island in the Torres Strait off far north Queensland is unlikely to spread to the mainland.

Two people have been diagnosed with the highly contagious skin infection acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis.

Nurses will begin checking children at the island's schools and childcare centres today.
