Scarlet fever surfaces at Lake Macquarie school (NSW)

SCARLET fever has appeared at a Lake Macquarie primary school, prompting a health warning to parents.

Valentine Public School told parents this week it had been informed one of it students was diagnosed recently with scarlet fever.

It is one of a number of childhood illnesses that can spread easily through schools, but is considered rare.

A spokesman for after-hours medical service GP Access said a handful of cases had been seen since July but "nothing out of the ordinary"...
