Health officer warns tourists over measles outbreaks in Asia

VICTORIANS holidaying in Asia have been warned about overseas measles outbreaks after the number of cases here hit a four-year high.

There have been 27 cases of measles in Victoria this year, mostly in travellers returning from the Philippines, Bali, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka.

Chief Health Officer Dr Rosemary Lester is urging travellers who are unsure if they are fully protected to get vaccinated against the highly contagious illness.

Eight people from the most recent cluster were taken to hospital.

For the same period in 2012 and 2013, there was one case in each year. In 2011, there were nine cases...
