Assam Wakes Up To Swine Flu Alert

Guwahati, December 16 (Agencies): The health authorities in Assam alerted the whole state of swine flu after two people including a doctor have been found positive for H1N1 virus at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH). A health department spokesperson said a doctor named Rajib Rai Baruah who was suffering from flu-like symptoms for the past few days tested positive while another college girl from jagiroad, 56 km away from the main city of Guwahati was also found positive.
Meantime, a general health alert has been sounded sending at least a dozen more samples to the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) at Lahowal in eastern Assam for confirmation. Parthajyoti Gogoi, the regional director of health and family welfare (northeast) of the central health ministry told, "The alert has been sounded as there are chances of swine flu spreading once again with the onset of winter." The authorities called an urgent meeting to nip it in the bud providing timely precautionary measures to the people.
