LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- A state Health Department official says Arkansans -- including youngsters in school -- may need to get three flu shots this year to protect against both regular, seasonal flu and swine flu. Dr. James Phillips of the infectious disease branch of the Health Department told a legislative meeting Wednesday that plans are already under way to hold inoculation sessions at schools to give shots providing protection against seasonal flu. He said mass clinics for those not in school are also planned. Phillips said the state also hopes to get adequate supplies of vaccine providing protection against the H1N1 strain of flu, commonly known as swine flu, to provide both school inoculations and mass clinics. But Phillips said it appears now that the best protection will result if an initial H1N1 shot is followed a few weeks later by a second, booster shot.
