The Argentine Government will initiate discussions with Brazil to develop a vaccine against swine flu, officially known as influenza A (H1N1), announced the Minister of Science and Technology of the country, Lino Bara?ao. The remedy, according to the minister, should be ready only in 2010.

"Begin talks with Brazil in search of a partnership to address a larger market, but in any case we consider the local production of a vaccine against the virus," said Bara?ao the newspaper P?gina 12.

With 137 deaths caused by swine flu, Argentina is the second country with highest number of deaths in the world, behind the U.S., which have 211 victims, according to official reports. Brazil has 11 deaths from swine flu, according to the Ministry of Health until the final report, released on Wednesday (15), the country had 1,175 cases of the disease.

The WHO (World Health Organization) announced this Friday that will not further the official count of cases of new disease in the world due to "unprecedented speed" of disease transmission and the high costs of monitoring.

The minister also said that Argentina, Brazil and Mexico have developed pharmaceutical enough to face the task and noted that the WHO called on countries in the region to develop capabilities to meet their own needs, in the face of pandemic disease.
