In the Valle Medio area, the monitoring of the nine patients who were confirmed with an acute measles infection continues.
All patients belong to the same family environment, although they did not have a history of vaccination for the disease.
The Public Health rapid response team carried out a quick investigation and detected that it is a measles outbreak that is related to unvaccinated people who traveled abroad. This group of people returned to Lamarque on September 18, when they began to have symptoms.
In the first instance, they detected a total of twelve people with compatible symptoms. So far, nine cases have been confirmed through the detection of IgM antibodies in the provincial Reference Laboratory.
From the Health Department, the epidemiology and immunization representatives were transferred to work with the local team in the search and identification of suspected cases. Likewise, work was done with the health teams in the card review to complete vaccination schedules and a vaccine block was carried out in homes and primary schools in Luis Beltrán: school 101, Lamarque: school 226 and in Choele Choel, in schools 77 and 110.
On the other hand, meetings were held with the health teams and directors of the hospitals of Lamarque, Luis Beltrán, Choele Choel and Pomona to coordinate activities. That is why it was decided to continue with the vaccination strategy to prevent the spread and/or entry of the virus, not only because of the cases in the region but also because of the possible entry of people from other countries or regions of our country.
