Are They Finally Admitting Natural Immunity?

By Jeffrey A. Tucker February 14, 2022

...
There can be no question that early on in lockdowns, Fauci, the CDC, and the WHO all decided to bury the point that we would get to endemicity the same way we always have.

How did that happen? Paul Allan Offit is an epidemiologist who advises (or did advise) the Biden administration in the early days. He is not my favorite guy but, as things go, he is no Anthony Fauci. He seems sincere and intelligent.

Offit variously appears on podcasts. Last week, he let slip an astonishing thing. He said that early on in the pandemic, he met at the White House with Walensky, Fauci, Collins, and one other person. The topic was whether the Biden administration should recognize natural immunity to Covid — the most well-established fact about cell biology. He and one other person said absolutely. The rest said no.

Here is the remarkable clip...

Brownstone again spouting rubbish.
It is hard to believe this mob are still pushing the great Barrington declaration which would have been an unmitigated disaster had it implemented.

"It all could have been fixed by a recognition of the immunological reality: the exposed and recovered are protected." This pretty much sums up Brownstone's knowledge on immunology. If I catch a cold or get flu once then I am protected for life, great. If only Brownstone had been here to teach us all that profound immunology years ago think of the lives they could have save.

The reason Biden's advisory group would have been cautious about the level of protection conferred by prior infection, rather than vaccination, is in the data. Consistent dosing by the vaccines produce a reasonably predictable response, as far as that is possible given our very varied immune responses. Natural infection can be so mild it is controlled almost immediately by innate immunity producing little or no adaptive response or it can produce a response greater than the vaccine in very severe cases. The problem is knowing which extreme you are dealing with and the recommendation is give them another shot so you are covered regardless.

If you want to know the actual data for the US on protection, variants, vaccines and natural immunity try https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32IAD5NyqWg and avoid anything coming out of Brownstone.

When you use the term immunity you have to be very clear about what you mean, either some level of immunity to infection or to disease. These are different and the vaccine certification and trials end points were only measuring disease impact. If people are now looking for immunity to infection then they are moving the goal posts and asking more than any respiratory virus has ever been able to deliver. Very few vaccines, or natural infections, give high long lasting protection to re infection and all those that do, to the best of my knowledge, have a viremic phase.
These vaccines work very well as long as you are measuring there impact on morbidity and mortality at a population level. They will not stop it in everyone and they will not prevent infection nor should they be expected to.

I think Biden needs a new advisory group. They're so stale after 2 years that they smell bad now.

Offit is close enough. Generally, when you can't get sterilizing immunity, a second infection with a similar virus is milder than the first. In some cases, disease could be worse since there can be ADE or antigenic sin at play, (same for vaccine immunity or whatever they call it now). You could be under more stress at the time of the second exposure or have an synergistic environmental exposure that wasn't present the first time.
Life will never be 100% safe and effective, just like vaccines and other medicines.
