Are there agendas regarding the COVID-19 Omicron variant?

almost everyone here and at twitter has an agenda, doesn't say what he/she really thinks but rather
what he/she thinks is best
for career, job, personal situation, what he/she previously wrote.
Remember my H5N1 polls at the flu-forums, remember all the posts here over the decades.

Now I see almost all "experts" dismissing the early reports that omega is maybe mild.
("too early" , "nonsense",...)
I think it just fits that agenda. They want to be heard, want to be important, want the issue (omega) to be important

we have Coetzee,, Mativha , NICD-numbers , SA-reaction (they know more than what is published)

I moved these 2 posts from another thread. Gsgs has a valid point. There are agendas everywhere, that is why it is important to gather a collection of information to really know what is going on.

As far as Omicron goes - I have no idea what is going on. It seems the W.H.O. and various governments have responded with lightening speed. There have been variants before but this one seems to have really pushed some buttons with officials. Are they promoting Omicron fears to promote vaccines? More control? Political ambitions? Or, is this concern "for real"?

We will know shortly. With Omicron numbers increasing in Europe we will know probably this week how critical these cases are.

Any officials who are maliciously fomenting disease fears should be prosecuted for misusing their office. Societies are on the edge.

The President had an unannounced news conference on Omicron and said not to panic as his 1st comment. When leaders say not to panic I find that always to be a bad sign.

The reason that children are targeted is to keep the schools open. There is a long standing pandemic policy to keep schools open so that their parents can go to work. Many parents of school age children are vital essential workers like nurses and police. They are needed to keep society functioning.

I am not saying I support the policy. I am explaining the reason.

I think that is the official reason. It might be helpful as a personal medicine for vulnerable children. I don't know what the trade-offs in that group are, but would at least trust motivations if that was the messaging.
