Another Missouri School District Closes Due to Flu

Lathrop School District (Clinton County) Closes Due to Flu

School web site reads:
Due to an extremely high number of students becoming sick with flu like symptoms, we are going to CANCEL SCHOOL FOR FRIDAY NOVEMBER 17TH. We have over 25% of elementary students and staff sick today. It's not nearly as bad at the high school or middle school, but they were seeing an increase in symptoms as the day went on. I really feel bad for doing this, but academically, tomorrow would be a complete waste for the elementary. We are also hopeful that by not having school fewer students will be exposed and become sick. Our custodial staff will be in and do a thorough job of cleaning and disinfecting, that along with three days off should get everyone healthy. Basketball games still on for tonight, No 3rd or 5th grade programs tonight. No vo-tech or Kindergarten trip to the circus tomorrow.

Lone Jack MO (Jackson County) School District Closes Due to Flu

School web site reads:
November 16, 2012

As you are aware, the flu has hit our student population hard over the course of the last two weeks. We have fought, what seems to this point to be, a losing battle against the spread of the illness. Our custodians have doubled their efforts at sanitizing the buildings, and the teachers and students have been diligent in providing their assistance. Despite our best efforts the illness continues to spread.

In an effort to stop the spread of this illness, we will be closing our schools for Monday and Tuesday of next week. This will extend the Thanksgiving break and provide a nine day period in which our buildings can be vacant. We are canceling or postponing activities that would have taken place on Monday, 11/19/12, and Tuesday, 11/20/12. This cancellation includes our A.M./P.M. daycare program...

NOTE: These Districts are in different parts of the state. Missouri has reported SPORADIC, yet ILI has continued over baseline and over the National baseline since the season began. http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=194015
