BHADRACHALAM: Almost 50 per cent of the town?s 60,000 population have been suffering from chikungunya, leave alone the equally horrible situation in eight mandals of the division.
Hitting at least one person in each household, the viral fever did not spare even doctors, Medical & Health personnel and farm hands. Recurrence of chikungunya after a gap of one month, in localities like Ashok Nagar and Kotha Colony, has been causing concern among the citizens.
Contacted by ?Express?, prominent doctors A Mohan Rao and D.Seetharama Raju said only patients afflicted with the viral fever have been pouring in to their hospitals round-the clock. Same is the case with other corporate hospitals in the town.
Some citizens told this paper that in spite of rampant incidence of chikungunya, the municipal authorities are complacent in controlling the mosquito menace, which is the prime cause of the viral fever.
