Andhra Pradesh Govt all set to tackle water-borne diseases
Hyderabad, Sep 21 : Andhra Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister S Chandra Sekhar today said the government had taken the necessary measures to control the water and vector-borne diseases and sufficient drugs were also being made available in all the districts.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the state task force committee on control of water-borne and vector-borne diseases, which met here today prepared an action plan for the coming three months.
He said 69 [FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]health[/FONT][/FONT] camps, 418 medical teams with 123 medical and 985 para-medical staff had been positioned in the flood-affected districts to meet any emergency due to recent rains.
The Minister said adequate funds were alotted to the Panchayats and Municipalities for sanitation drive and chlorination of water.
He said Rs 158 crore had been released to 21,807 panchayats and Rs 118 crore to all the Municipalities and other urban areas for solid waste management and sanitation drive.
Special wards were created for patients suffering from Dengue fever with additional beds in all the district hospitals. The meeting also decided to start four platelet separation and blood transfusion facilities at Visakhapatnam, Warangal, Guntur and Hyderabad within one week.
Mr Sekhar said 13,534 [FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]Malaria[/FONT][/FONT] cases were reported this year against 34,912 reported last year. Out of the 197 Dengue cases reported last year, 17 people died while only two cases had been reported this year.
Two cases of Japanese Encephalitis and 523 Fileria cases were reported this year.
He said intensified disease surveillance activities had been undertaken in all the districts and the medical teams were conducting door-to-door surveillance to control the diseases. [/color] <!-- google_ad_section_end --> --- UNI
