The Bauchi State government says it’s investigating reports of mysterious deaths in Azare town, katagum local government area of the state.

In the last fifteen days over 100 people, mostly the elderly have reportedly died in the area.

While some stakeholders in the state have linked the strange deaths to the Covid-19 pandemic, the state government has rejected such claims.

Speaking at a press conference at the Government House on Saturday, Chairman of the state Rapid Response Task Force Committee on COVID-19 and Deputy Governor, Baba Tela, attributed the deaths to the environmental situation in the state.

He said, “It is a seasonal thing in the area especially during the hot season when people with underlying illnesses get complications which always lead to their deaths.”...

BAUCHI – Bauchi State residents are alleging massive deaths from a ‘strange ailment’ in Azare, headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area of the state.

About 301 people are feared dead in the last two weeks in the area, according to residents.

Some suspect the strange ailment to be COVID-19

The state government on Saturday alleged exaggeration of the matter...
