ALGIERS, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- A total of 20 million anti-swine flu vaccine doses will be delivered soon to Algeria, Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform Said Barkat said.
"Algeria has ordered 65 million doses of the vaccine from four international laboratories, and the first part, made up of 20 million doses, will be available in the coming days," Algerian news agency APS cited Barkat as saying to reporters on the margins of an inaugural lesson on swine flu prevention on the occasion of the back-to-school 2009-2010
He said the first to get vaccinated will be the medical and paramedical staffs as well as the Customs, Police and Gendarmerie corpses.
The authorities have taken "all precautions" both in terms of prevention and treatment, he pointed out.
So far, some 50 influenza A (H1N1) cases have been reported in Algeria, 46 of them are people coming from abroad, Barkat said, adding that all the affected people have received the necessary care.
He added that Algeria has mobilized more than 100 reference hospitals and 32 "sentinel sites," implanted at frontier crossings, ports and airports, as well as the necessary resources to face swine flu.
Said Barkat called that prevention advice given by doctors in this respect be respected to avoid the spread of the virus in the country.
