The Ministry of Agriculture has not recorded any cases of avian flu and Newcastle

ALGIERS - The Acting Director of Veterinary Services at the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries Hadj Ammar Djamila said in a statement to the APS that no cases of avian flu and Newcastle have been recorded.

"We have not recorded any cases of these two diseases in birds and poultry," stressing that the ministry has taken all the preventive measures to contain the risk of contagion in the event of outbreaks of these two diseases.

Specialist services have also taken samples for analysis at the central laboratory of the National Institute of Veterinary Medicine, said the same official.

"Immediate preventive measures have been taken," she said, adding that the results of the analyzes will be known in a week to 10 days.

"Generally we do not wait for the results to take the necessary measures of prevention, in the slightest doubt," she said, "we immediately put in place a sanitary device."

Veterinary services usually isolate suspect poultry farms, restricting access to livestock to livestock farmers.

They shall also inform the veterinary inspectorates, the Chamber of Agriculture, the National Interprofessional Council for the Poultry Industry, the National Feed Board, the wilayas, the presidents of agricultural cooperatives and the professionals of the sector, take.

The Director urged all livestock keepers to inform the veterinary inspectorate in their wilaya in case of suspicious cases.

Concerning the dead bodies of migratory birds found last November in the wetland of the lake of sebkhet El Melh in El M?nia (Gharda?a), Mrs. Hadj Ammar said that analyzes were carried out that concluded the presence of the virus only in the Migrator birds.

Newcastle disease and Influenza viruses are classified as highly contagious pathogenic viruses that affect birds and poultry and are transmissible to humans.
