Alaska health department issues advisory on testing for Ebola

Questions from Alaska health care providers concerning handling people infected with the Ebola virus prompted the state?s Department of Health and Social Services to issue an advisory Tuesday on how to evaluate patients suspected of having the deadly disease.

Louisa Castrodale, an epidemiologist with the state health department, said there have been no reports of Ebola in Alaska. Nonetheless, the department has fielded a number of what-if questions from providers, like "'If we had it, what kind of specimen would we get?'" Castrodale said.

?There are no suspected cases,? she said. ?There?s nothing that we?re actively working on. We?re just trying to ensure that health care providers have those current links.?
