As of October 20, 2009, influenza continues to circulate throughout the state. Of the positive influenza cases reported to the state in the last three weeks, 99.7% are the 2009 H1N1 strain. Since April 28, 2009, the department's Bureau of Clinical Laboratories (BCL) has detected influenza in 2,534 out of 6,686 specimens; 2,453 of these are the 2009 H1N1 strain. ADPH is aware of twenty influenza-associated deaths that have occurred in Alabama since July 1, 2009, nineteen of which have laboratory confirmation.

Influenza-associated Deaths Reported to ADPH

ADPH is aware of 29 influenza-associated deaths that have occurred in Alabama since July 1, 2009, 27 of which have laboratory confirmation as of November 5, 2009.
