VANCE, Ala. (WIAT) ? The Alabama Department of Public Health is investigating a case of tuberculosis found in an employee at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance.

The airborne disease was found in a team member of the plant. Pam Barrett, the director of the Alabama Department of Public Health Tuberculosis Control Division, says the plant was notified Wednesday of the department?s plans to investigate the case...

One of the Mercedes employees tested at the company?s Vance plant on Friday for tuberculosis showed signs of being infected with the disease.

The worker was being treated to end the infection, said Pam Barrett, director of the Alabama Department of Public Health?s Tuberculosis Control Division.

About 50 to 60 workers at Mercedes-Benz U.S. International were tested for tuberculosis because they worked in close proximity for an extended time with another employee who had contracted the disease. That employee also is being treated...
