Now the travel restrictions are going the other way, too: British officials over the weekend told an African-based carrier, Gambia Bird, it could not operate a nonstop flight from London to Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The logistics of bringing in armies of different countries speaking different languages with varied equipment must be pretty complicated.

The United Nations has requested Spain to authorize refuelling stops in the island of Gran Canaria, in order to put an airlift into place. So far as I know, Spain has not replied to the request yet.

I think only NATO or UN can pull it off, perhaps they are already making plans - but they need to move fast and at the moment we see nothing of the kind happening.

Whose Military? If you're talking US military there is going to come a point where people are going to point out that it is a military and not a world rescue organization. That is what the UN is for. They can charter planes if needed. Or the WHO. These are the things they should be doing. I guess there is a place for orgranizations and governments. The free market doesn't seem to be doing well for this situation. Well except for the profit on PPE.

Or there's Bill Gates, Koch Brothers, etc. What's a couple flights when you're worth 82 billion?

If they really have a reason to go there, they can set up military flights or charter flights. People don't need to be running back and forth on commercial flights.

The real problem is that they probably want to run commercial flights because the tourist traffic (or whatever it is) subsidizes the official traffic. This is true under normal circumstances, but these aren't normal circumstances. At some point, this is going to have to stop being a COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS which is how they ordinarily think of it. This is what they have to get their heads around.
