THE World Health Organisation (WHO) has stated that a total of 8,102 cases of Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 and 40 deaths have so far been recorded in Africa.
WHO stated that South Africa had recorded 1,735 new cases as of September, 3, 2009 and four deaths while Uganda had recorded two new cases.
Zambia also recorded three new cases last week.
It stated that Algeria had so far recorded 33 cases, Angola 11, Botswana 23, Cameroon four, Cape Verde 46, Cote D?Ivoire two, Democratic Republic of Congo one, Ethiopia four, Gabon one, Ghana 10, Kenya 85, Lesotho 14, Madagascar 15, Mauritius 69 with eight deaths, Mozambique one, Namibia 52 with one death, Seychelles three, South Africa 7,606 and 31 deaths.
South Africa had also recorded 1,735 new cases and four new deaths.
WHO stated that other countries with cases included Swaziland with two, Tanzania 97 cases, Uganda 13 with two new cases, Zambia with 13 cases while Zimbabwe had five.
It stated that all countries in the region had activated their national emergency preparedness and contingency response plans.
WHO advised the public not to panic but take necessary preventive measures such as hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette in households, the community, health care facilities as well as in other settings where people gather.
