H1N1 claims life of Indian River man

INDIAN RIVER ? Family members confirmed the identity of the most recent area H1N1 death to be 45-year-old Larry Provo of Indian River.
On Tuesday, District Health Department No. 4 in Alpena reported an influenza related death in Northeast Michigan. The agency reported that an adult male confirmed to have had H1N1 died in January from complications related to the flu.
According to ex-wife and ?best friend,? Janemarie Provo, the family received confirmation on Monday, Jan. 25, that Provo died of complications of H1N1. Larry died at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor on Thursday, Jan. 21.
Janemarie said Larry started getting sick on Saturday, Jan. 9. He was admitted to Cheboygan Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 12, and was airlifted to the University of Michigan Medical Center on Friday, Jan. 15.
?He was initially diagnosed with pneumonia,? Janemarie said. ?It hit hard and fast. He got sick and he got sick fast and didn?t come out of it.?
With Larry exhibiting symptoms including fatigue, confusion and respiratory problems, including shortness of breath and coughing, as well as a very high fever, Janemarie said she wants people to be aware of the quickness of the onset of the illness and the importance of seeking medical attention.
?I want people to be aware that if they start to get symptoms, they should seek medical attention as soon as possible,? she said.
An avid hockey player and golfer, as well as a volunteer firefighter for Tuscorara Township, Provo leaves behind a 13-year-old daughter, Alexi, who, along with her mother, will remember him as an easy-going guy who loved to spend time with his family.
?He was a very happy, easy going kind of person,? Janemarie said. ?He was very lovable and he will be greatly missed.?...
