88 children were rushed to hospital with an acute respiratory virus infection in Kherson region.

Ukrainian News learned this from a report of the press service of the Ministry for Emergency Situations and Protection of Population from Chornobyl Accident Consequences.

On April 6-9, a total of 88 children (born in 1989-1997) and one teacher were taken to the Velyka Oleksandrivka central hospital from the Kalininske boarding school #1 with a preliminary diagnosis of an acute respiratory-virus infection.

The disease is proceeding in a light form.

Experts of the district sanitary and epidemiology service are holding a complex of measures in the focus of the disease.

While we don't know if these students are sick with H5N1 we do know that the Ukraine has been having Bird Flu outbreaks for many many months now and they have yet to announce any human cases.

But we all know human cases are there.

The question that always seems to be left out of these reports is how many of these types of outbreaks are "normal." That is, in years that have not been overshadowed by avian flu, how many mass outbreaks of these types occur?

Anyone here have that type of information?

dottore_pesta,

Unfortunatly this information is not really available.

There is no established baseline so we are really groping in the dark.

I have however asked for a baseline to be created, but this requires quite an undertaking.

See http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35 for more information about what I have in mind.

Just for the sake of reference, there was what appeared to be a bf outbreak in Kherson back in December, although I don't believe it was ever confirmed....

babelfished from Russian:

Bird influenza, is similar, it reached Kherson
12.12.05

In the southern villages of Kherson region the poultry mass perishes. The symptoms of the disease, from which perish the birds, they indicate the virus of bird influenza.

In particular, in the village red shepherd in Kherson region, already during November the case of poultry reached the level of epidemic, reports UNIAN.

Peasants repeatedly turned themselves into the veterinary service, but doctors certify, that the birds perish from the ascarids and the n'yukaslovskoy [Newcastle!] disease, which frequently strikes domestic hens and geese. According to the leader of kalanchakskoy sanepidemstantsii Of lyubovi Of sanzherovskoy, the population speculates on the theme of bird influenza for the material benefit: "each is interested so that the state would isolate money to it; therefore now people will speak anything".
