A Call for National & International Human Rights Organizations to Consult and Inspect US Ebola Quarantine Centers

sharon sanders

Editor-in-Chief & President
It is what it is. The governors have the authority to impose quarantine and I never doubted they would. I have never been afraid of a large ebola outbreak in the US because there is the political will to force draconian measures.

I think all people who are traveling to West Africa ebola stricken countries must now anticipate a forced quarantine upon their return to the US. I do not think this will change. I am sure both of the candidates for governor in Florida would impose a quarantine in 10 seconds. How many people would visit Disney after a case is discovered to have visited there? Rational or irrational fear. It doesn't matter.

I think the answer is that each state needs to make the 21 day quarantine as comfortable as possible. They should be making plans for this. I think the International Red Cross, Amnesty International, ACLU, Human Rights Watch should be invited to consult and also have the ability to visit the quarantine areas to ensure fair and humane treatment of anyone who is quarantined.

I think we need to make the best of a bad situation.
