JAKARTA, July 11 (Xinhua) --

The Indonesian Ministry of Health and the Army have agreed to resume their cooperation on healthcare which established in 1999 and expired in 2004, national Antara News Agency reported on Friday.

The cooperation was renewed for another five years because it turned out to be beneficial for improving Indonesian people's health, Indonesian Minister of Health Siti Fadilah was quoted as saying.

She said that the cooperation included various things such as provision of basic health services and references, post disaster healthcare, health service in border and conflict areas, control of contagious diseases, environmental health, preparation of medical personnel and technological health research and development.

In the meantime, Army Chief General Agustadi said that all of the programs were to be carried out by utilizing the available resources available at both sides.

He said that the Health Ministry would be responsible for facilitating the procurement of medicines, medical equipment, medical personnel and healthcare facilities.

The Army will provide health services and all resources it has from the headquarters down to regional branches to support the implementation of the medical service programs.

"The cooperation is also carried out in the form of health assistance for other countries which also experienced natural disasters such as in China, Iran and the Philippines," Siti Fadilah said.

She added that Army personnel were also involved in the handling of malaria, tuberculosis and bird flu.
