8 deaths attributed to H1N1 virus in Va.

The Virginia Department of Health confirmed Thursday that, to date, the deaths of eight people in Virginia have been attributed, at least in part, to the H1N1 flu virus.
All eight had underlying medical conditions that put them at greater risk for serious complications related to H1N1, also known as swine flu, the department said.
The eighth death occurred in the Mount Rogers Health District, the VDH said, and involved an adult female.
The state started counting H1N1-related deaths in July.
Melodie Martin, a spokeswoman for the VDH, said 88,200 doses of H1N1 vaccine are in the process of being distributed around the state.
