SEOUL, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's health authorities on late Sunday reported a new death case related to A/H1N1 influenza virus, which is the second case in the day, bringing the country's death toll from the new flu to seven.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, a 78-year-old man, who has long suffered from liver cirrhosis, high blood pressure and other diseases, died in the day due to septicaemia caused by the A/H1N1 virus.

The exact cause of the death was still under investigation, the ministry said.

The patient, a resident of southeastern country, was admitted to hospital on Aug. 8 after showing high fever, abdominal pain and spasms. He was diagnosed as hepatocirrhosis and septicaemia caused by alcoholism, and received antibiotic treatment. But his health conditions kept deteriorating. The patient was confirmed infected with A/H1N1 on Aug. 12.

South Korea reported its first death case from A/H1N1 flu on Aug.15, and the 6th earlier in the day. Another female A/H1N1 patient lapsed into brain death on Sept. 4.

The country reported its first new flu outbreak in early May, and a total of 7,577 cases of the flu infections were reported across the nation as of Sept. 10, according to the ministry. Health experts say the disease may spread more widely in the fall, and there is the possibility the death toll may rise.
