533 Scarlet Fever Cases in West Jakarta
BERITAJAKARTA.COM ? 4/5/2010 4:12:19 PM

Dengue fever still becomes a serious threat for West Jakarta people. Until March 2010, there have been 533 cases in West Jakarta. This number is higher than the number in February 2010 by 409 cases and 252 cases in January. March 2009 had 506 cases, fewer than the same period of this year.

?The total number of dengue fever cases for this year is 1,194. This trend is predicted to continue in this month,? said Bal`an K Rangkuti, section staff for Society Health Tackling of West Jakarta Sub-dept. of Health Services, Monday (4/5).

However, if compared with the number for January to March 2009 reaching 1,494 cases, this year`s case is decreasing. Of total 533 cases, Cengkareng Sub-district is in the first position, 141 cases in march 2010; it increased significantly from 79 cases in February. Kapuk Urban Village had as many as 38 cases and Cengkarengbarat Urban Village 35 cases.

The number of dengue fever in Palmerah Sub-district has decreased from 67 cases in February to 51 cases in March. Kemanggisan Urban Village has the highest number of dengue fever cases in 2010, 87 cases. ?This increasing number of dengue fever is because of unstable weather,? he explained.

Such a condition makes the mosquito breed fast. Aedes aegypti mosquito`s breeding depends on the weather. ?There is a probability to peak because the weather is still unstable,? he said.

The lack of people awareness to the health of environment is the determining factor for mosquito breeding. ?Self jumantik (PSN officer by oneself) should be done every day by the people,? he stated.

So far, there has no death victim in West Jakarta. Even so, people should be extra careful to this disease. People should keep the environment healthy and clean.
