500 affected by chikunguniya, dengue

Kalyani (WB), Nov 17 About 500 people have been affected by chikungunia and dengue in West Bengal's Nadia district.

Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health Netai Mondal said the instances of the two diseases were being reported since the beginning of November and samples had been sent to National Institution of Communicable and Enteric Diseases (NICED) and Institute of Tropical Diseases in Kolkata.

Twelve samples had been sent to NICED of which six had tested positive for chikunguniya and two for dengue.

Another 11 samples had been sent to Institute of Tropical diseases of which eight had tested positive for chikunguniya and one for dengue, he said.

Measures have been taken to contain the spread of the two diseases and doctors sent to the affected villages and areas of Bethuaduhari, Ranaghat and Fulia.
