4 Swine Flu-Related Deaths Confirmed In County

SAN DIEGO -- Four more deaths associated with the swine flu were confirmed in San Diego County, local health officials announced Wednesday.

The latest victims were all women -- ages 30, 41, 50 and 53 -- and all had underlying medical conditions, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency.

The 41-year-old was visiting the area when she fell ill and will not be included in local statistics, according to the HHSA. Instead, her death will be counted in her undisclosed state of residence, county health officials said.

So far, there have been 735 confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza in San Diego County and a dozen deaths, according to the HHSA.

County health officials encouraged people to stay home from work or school if they have flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.

Those with underlying medical conditions experiencing flu-like symptoms should contact their doctor, according to the HHSA.

752 County Swine Flu Cases Reported, 14 Fatal

SAN DIEGO -- The number of confirmed cases of swine flu reported in San Diego County since the pandemic began earlier this year stood at 752 Thursday morning, health officials said.

A total of 14 of those cases have been fatal, according to the county Health and Human Services Agency.

Four deaths were reported Wednesday. The latest victims were all women -- ages 30, 41, 50 and 53 -- and all had underlying medical conditions, the HHSA reported.

Two of the 14 people who have died locally from swine flu, caused by the H1N1 virus, were visiting San Diego at the time of their deaths. They will not be included in local statistics but will be counted in their hometowns, according to the HHSA.

County health officials urged the public again this week to stay home from work or school if they have flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue.

Those with underlying medical conditions experiencing influenza-like symptoms should contact their doctor, according to the HHSA.

Discrepancy between la county deaths ,17, and what the state DPH reports, 8. That is nine LA County deaths not reported to the state dept of health.

There is great undereporting of cases in LA County. 10 miilion poplulation (over 1/4th of state's total poplulation ) and only 8 officially confirmed deaths from A H1N1 virus.
