36 new H1N1 cases in one day

THIRTY-SIX people tested positive yesterday for Influenza A (H1N1) in Brunei Darussalam.
The new cases were recorded by the Ministry of Health in just one day.
This stresses the importance for people to get vaccinated against the H1N1 as soon as possible, health officials said yesterday.
In an e-mail to The Brunei Times, Dr Hjh Maslina Hj Mohsin, Health Services Director, said: ?Today (February 1) we already have 36 new cases and it?s only Monday. Most likely this week?s (first week of February) number of cases will be even higher.?
The new cases were reported in the Brunei-Muara district.
No further information on the new cases such as specific areas where H1N1 incidence was high was available at press time as the ministry was still conducting an investigation.
Dr Hjh Maslina said the new cases were under home quarantine.
Meanwhile, for the month of January, a total of 44 positive cases for H1N1 were recorded.
Ten new cases were reported in last week of January.
In the first week, a total of 15 cases were recorded, 27 in the second week and 34 in the third week.
Dr Hjh Maslina said: ?This is a major concern for the Ministry of Health. We want the public to be vaccinated as soon as possible.?
A total of 17,197 people have been vaccinated against Influenza A (H1N1) as of January 30, 2010.
The ministry has set up several vaccination centres nationwide including Jubli Perak Health Centre in Sengkurong, the Vaccination Centre at the Ong Sum Ping Health Centre in the capital, and the Berakas ?A? Health Centre in Anggerek Desa, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (Ripas) Hospital, Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital in Tutong, Suri Seri Begawan Hospital and Sungai Liang Health Centre in Belait and Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam Hospital in Temburong.
The ministry has issued another press statement yesterday reiterating the need for public to get the vaccine injections at health centres in their respective districts. They were also to visit hospitals only during stipulated visiting hours and to limit two visitors per patient, with masks worn at all times.
Children aged 12 years and below should not be brought to hospitals visit.
The ministry is also seeking the public?s cooperation to comply with regulations on visiting hospitals to prevent further spread of the infection.
They also stressed the need for observing good personal hygiene and proper etiquette when coughing or sneezing.
