Their ages ranged from 6 to 83 years and with the exception of one case, all had risk factors for complicated influenza .
In addition, 4 patients returning from Mecca were hospitalized. They were reported to InVS
with suspected coronavirus infection. Virological specimens confirmed a diagnosis
flu for 3 of the 4 patients (2 influenza A (H1N1) and 1 pdm09 A (H3N2)) and reversed the presence

Influenza becomes discreet in metropolitan France

Only some cases of influenza were noticed in France in the course of the week from 5 till 11 November, points out the network of the regional Groups of observation of influenza (GROG), on Wednesday, November 14th. GROG signal the circulation of the three types and subcategories of influenza, to know (H1N1) A, A (H3N2) and B. Nevertheless, network cannot again determine if one of them will be predominant this winter.

Nowadays, the clinical activity of seasonal influenza advances in no French region. On the other hand, the epidemic of bronchiolite clamps down in metropolitan France, notably in the north.

' Last week, influenza was responsible about 545.000 appeals to the general practitioners and paediatricians, that is 45 % of appeals for high-pitched respiratory infection ', notes Hot toddy network (Regional Groups of Observation of Influenza). Since the resumption of surveillance the November 1st, 2012, 66 serious cases, among which 5 deceases (1 owing in the virus HAS / H1N1, 1 in IN / H3N2, 1 in B and 2 in viruses A yet characterized), were signalled to the Institute of health wakefulness (InVS). The majority of these 66 cases accepted in intensive care concern adults, with risk factor, infected by the virus pand?mique on 2009, one of three viruses taken into account in vaccine and nowadays in circulation HAS / H1N1. Nevertheless, 35 % introduced no risk factor of aggravated influenza (respiratory, cardiac chronic illness, morbid obesity...). On the total, 67 % were not vaccinated. 3 % were it. In 30 % of these serious cases (20 patients), vaccinal status is not specified (30 %), according to this balance sheet.

Re: 2012/13 french cases of flu in ICU - 66 with 5 deaths

In a newsletter published on Wednesday, InVS adds that since the resumption of surveillance on November 1st of this year, 129 serious cases, among which 15 deceases, were signalled to him.
The majority of these 129 cases accepted in intensive care concern adults, with risk factor, infected by viruses of type A. Alone 8 of them had been vaccinated.
On the 15 persons died, from 3 to 84 years old, 11 introduced a risk factor and 13 had been infected by a virus of type A, specifies InVS which underlines that the epidemic does not introduce " particular seriousness " until now, with a rate of lower decease that noticed ? during the previous seasons ?.
According to the Groupes network R?gionaux of Observation of Influenza, ? influenza was responsible about 560 000 appeals to the general practitioners and paediatricians ? last week, that is 20000 more than previous week.

Network also raises that the increase of consultations for high-pitched respiratory infection or seizes up concern ? especially the children ? and that the three viruses A (H1N1) pdm09, In (H3N2) and B continues circulating ? without net dominance of one or other one ?.
? The level of activity of the influenzal syndromes should continue augmenting this week ?, estimates from his part the Sentinelles-Inserm network which takes into account only influenza with fever of sudden appearance exceeding 39 degrees, accompanied with respiratory signs and with aches, and seen in general medicine.
He adds that on the basis of these criteria, ? 841 6000 persons would have consulted a doctor in five weeks of epidemic ?.
The most affected regions by influenza last week, according to network Sentries, were regions Rh?ne - Alps (666 for 100000 inhabitants), Nord-Pas-de-Calais (660), Limousin (592), Auvergne (450), Provence-French riviera of Azure ((427), Champagne-Ardenne (418), Alsace (413) and Centers (312).

Re: 2012/13 french cases of flu in ICU - 169 with 17 deaths

The epidemic of influenza continues intensifying in metropolitan France, with consultations in strong increase, but fewer serious cases were hospitalized in the course of last week, according to organisms of loading of the surveillance of this infection.

After six successive weeks of increase, ' infectious activity could continue augmenting this week ', raises the Sentinelles-Inserm network according to its model of prediction.

The Institute of health wakefulness (InVS) notes that last week was marked by a ' important increase of consultations and hospitalizations ', with nevertheless ' a reduction of serious cases accepted in intensive care ', perhaps in touch with a more important circulation of viruses B for three weeks.

The institute raises so a rate of impact of consultations for influenzal syndromes (732 cases for 100.000 inhabitants) ' in strong increase ' for last week, exceeding the peak of the previous two seasons.

' All edges of ages are concerned, and particularly the children ', underlines from his part Hot toddy network (Regional Groups of Observation of Influenza).

Least than 14 years composed 60 % of the 2.365 passages for influenza in emergency and 54 % of hospitalizations last week, according to the hospital network Oscour which represents two - third of all passages to emergency in metropolis.

Influenza was responsible d? about 1.100.000 appeals to the general practitioners and paediatricians last week, to an estimate of the Hot toddy.

These last say that three types of influenzal viruses circulate A (H1N1) pdm09, To (H3N2) and B nowadays.

For his/her part, Sentries network, which takes into account only forms of influenza marked by a fever exceeding 39 degrees and of sudden appearance, accompanied with aches and with respiratory signs, respect according to these criteria, that in six weeks of epidemic 1.270.000 persons would have consulted a doctor.

On the total of the 169 cases of making seize up (among whom 9 vaccinating) accepted in intensive care taken a census since last November, 17 deceases are to deplore at patient's from 3 to 84 years old, points out on Wednesday InVS.

Among these serious cases, 70 % were not vaccinated; for 24 % of them, vaccinal status is not specified.

On the 169 cases, 30 % had no risk factor of complicated influenza (respiratory, cardiac chronic illness, morbid obesity).

Epid?mie of intense influenza, 25 deaths

If the epidemic of ' Gastro ' ends, the epidemic of influenza remains intense in metropolitan France, with 25 deceases in intensive care taken a census since last November 1st, according to the organisms of surveillance. The Institute of health wakefulness (InVS) notes that influenza is 'intense ' with a ' strong increase ' of passages in emergency 'principally ' of children of less than 14 years (60 % of passages in emergency and 45 % of hospitalizations while they count only for 18 % of the French population) .Depuis on the November 1st, 2012, 236 cases of influenza were accepted in intensive care, among which the 25 died persons, according to InVS. The number of these serious cases already exceeds that recorded at the time of the infectious peak of the previous season, but the proportion of deceases remains lower in that of last seasons.
