BRASILIA, 15 (ANSA) - At least 84 people died and 675 were hospitalized in Brazil this year due to influenza virus A (H1N1), known as swine flu.
The figure includes deaths from the first of January until Wednesday, July 15, according to the latest report by the Ministry of Health, reported today.
According to the ministry, the Northern Region of the country recorded 44 deaths and 256 severe cases of the disease.

A girl of 11 years was the first victim of influenza A (H1N1) in Foz do Iguaçu, in the western region this year. Giovana Senin Brenda Duarte was admitted to the Hospital Costa Cavalcanti for 14 days with symptoms of the disease, even after taking the vaccine against the virus. The girl had a cardiac arrest and was resuscitated, but his condition was very serious. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), but could not resist and he died on Sunday evening (18).
