Two Kansas men who were infected with the H1N1 virus have died, bringing the state death toll to 20.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported these deaths:
? A 44-year-old from the Kansas City metropolitan area who had underlying health conditions that placed him at greater risk for severe complications of influenza. The area includes Franklin, Johnson, Leavenworth, Linn, Miami and Wyandotte counties.

? A 35-year-old from northeast Kansas who did not have any underlying health conditions. The area includes Marshall, Nemaha, Brown, Doniphan, Riley, Pottawatomie Atchison, Geary, Morris, Lyon and Douglas counties.

Spokespeople with Douglas, Leavenworth and Johnson counties said the deaths likely did not occur in their counties because they were not contacted by KDHE. A Franklin County spokeswoman declined to comment.

TWO-MORE-H1N1-DEATHS-REPORTED-IN-NORTHEAST-KANSAS

Written by Neil Wieland

Two more H1N1-related deaths have been reported by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, including a 35-year-old northeast Kansas man.
While the agency offers no confirmation on identity, it?s believed the victim is Victor Patel, a well-known local businessman, who owned area convenience stores, including locations in Atchison and Horton. He died November 8th following a hospital stay in Kansas City. Family, friends, and associates of Patel say his medical condition was H1N1-related. The KDHE states only that the 35-year-old was confirmed to have pandemic H1N1 on October 12th, with the death reported to the agency on Friday. Patel had no underlying health conditions that would have placed him at greater risk of complications.
The other victim is identified as a 44-year-old Kansas City Metropolitan area man, confirmed with Pandemic H1N1 on October 12th. His death was also reported to the KDHE on Friday, and he did suffer underlying health conditions. The latest deaths bring the state?s total of H1N1-related deaths to 21.
