2 in Central Point School District hospitalized for swine flu

GRANTS PASS, Ore. - The Central Point School District says one staff member and one student have been hospitalized with the H1N1 virus, or swine flu.
This comes after Prospect School decided to close for the rest of the week when 69 of the school's 210 students and 5 of its 16 teachers were out sick Monday with flu-like symptoms.
Meanwhile, five percent of students in the Grants Pass School District, about 200 people, are currently out sick. The district has no target percentage of student absences that must be met before closing its doors.
"We're going to look at the possibility that can we combine classes if we're seeing a higher absence rate," said Sherry Ely, Grants Pass School District Director of Business Services.
The number of students out sick in the Central Point School District is a little more than 2-percent, a slight increase over last week. Central Point officials say the Jackson County Health Department and the Southern Oregon Education Service District will assist with any potential decision to close schools because of swine flu within the district.
Currently schools are asking parents to keep their students at home if they have a fever over 100, have a cough, sore throat, headache or muscle aches. Schools are sending home students and staff members that show any of these symptoms.
