New Zealand athletes are being told to use contraception for up to six months after competing at the Rio Olympics due to the Zika virus.

Male athletes are being informed they must abstain from sex or use condoms for six months after returning from Brazil over fears of sexual transmission of the virus.

For women, the period is only four weeks.
