M4.9 quake hits Akita Pref. in northeastern Japan, no tsunami warning

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.9 jolted Akita Prefecture on the Sea of Japan side of northeastern Japan on Tuesday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
