Pandemic flu ends with 165 dead persons and more than 1.400 serious patients

Madrid, on May 7 (EFE) .-A whole of 165 dead persons and 1.409 serious patients is the balance of the pandemic of flu corresponding to the period 2010-2011, as information of the System of Alertness on this infection of the Institute of Health Carlos III From the beginning of the pandemic phase, there have been notified 3.699 detections of the virus of the flu, of which 70,4 % has been of the type A, 29,3 % of B and 0,3 % of C.
The general manager of Public Health and Exterior Health of the Ministry of Health, Social Politics and Equality, Carmen Amela, has told, in declarations to Efe, that the characteristics of the serious and deceased cases are similar to those of the period 2009-2010.
Although in this period the death of 350 persons was notified because of the flu A, the epidemi?logos think that it is not possible to compare this information with the current ones, because the pursuit of the pandemic was much more exhaustive and there was one major inventory of cases in those moments of alert before the new virus.
Love her it has pointed out that the flu has kept on affecting this period to the population of middle age and, basically, with factors of risk.

The expert has affected in that they could have prepared many of these assumptions with vaccination, since concerning 80 % of the serious patients with factors of risk - chronic illnesses, pregnancy, obesity and major of 60 years - they were not immunized.

From the beginning of the period, the detected mortality was located in minimal values until middle of December and, from then, supported a similar pattern to observed other years.
" The number of deaths has been in general below the average awaited values and never they have come closer the threshold of alert ", according to the balance of Carlos III.
Of the serious cases, 84,4 % corresponded to infections for the virus of the flu A H1N1, of that 57 % was a men and 43 % women, 9 % of pregnant them.
15 % of the infections registered in 5-year-old minors; 4 % in ages understood between the 5 and 14 years; 27 % between 15-44 years; 36 % between 45-64 and 18 % in the biggest of 64.
Of 165 deceased, eight of every ten were presenting factors of risk, and up to 82 % of the affected ones included in the recommended groups of vaccination it had not received the anti-flu immunization.

With the available information up to the moment it is observed that 74 % of the affected ones was presenting some factor of risk of complications of flu.
They developed pneumonia 76 % of the infected ones, presented bacterial coinfection 26 %, syndrome of respiratory sharp distr?s 28 % and multiorganic mistake 11 % of the cases.
According to the last weekly report of the System of Alertness of the Flu, corresponding on April 30, in Spain there persists the absence of circulation of virus gripales for the second week in a row, once finished the epidemic wave of the period 2010-2011 that has had a duration of ten weeks.
The activity gripal stays stable and below the threshold basal, with a valuation of incidence of 4,80 for 100.000 inhabitants, and a void level of geographical diffusion of the illness.
The director of Health Publishes that it has stressed the importance of the fact that the people with factors of risk keep on being vaccinated opposite to this virus and has mentioned that this period, with regard to the previous one, they have made it 10 % less of the persons older than 65 years.
Minor of the reached one has vaccinated 60 % of this population group, a percentage 15 points in 2006 and that much is distant from 75 % who recommends the World Organization of the Health (WHO) and the European Council.

The coordinator of the Group of Study of the Flu and boss of the Service of Clinical Microbiology and Control of the Infection of the Hospital of Basurto (Bilbao), Ram?n Cisterna, has warned that to reduce the number of vaccinated population it can suppose a regression in the social protection opposite to a virus that every year has consequences both for the health of the citizens and for the sanitary and productive system of the country.
He has insisted, for it, that the vaccine is the only effective formula to be protected, in that it is more effective all the more followed years apply itself and in that all the more persons are immunized, more barriers are established to prevent the virus of the flu from being spread.
