Greene County Health officials confirm measles

A mother and son returning to Greene County from Venezuela have brought the measles home with them. A spokeswoman for the Springfield Greene County Health Department says most folks are immune from the disease either by vaccine or having already had the disease. There are a few folks in the slight risk category that include children who have not been given the MMR shot, pregnant women and those who got only one shot of vaccine prior to 1989...

Third case of measles confirmed in Greene County area

A third case of measles this month has been confirmed in the Greene County area, according to a news release from the Springfield Greene County Health Department.

The first two cases -- diagnosed in early May -- involved a mother and her child, who is between the ages of 1 and 9, said spokeswoman Katie Towns-Jeter. They are believed to have picked up the illness when they traveled to Venezuela...

The person with the most recent case is described as a person between 18 and 45 years old. The newest case is considered a "secondary" case, meaning officials know the person had contact with the earlier cases.

"We are just continuing to urge people to take precautions, to know signs and symptoms of illness," said Towns-Jeter. "If they do experience symptoms, is important to limit exposure to others."
