Re: Indonesia - Human cases, July & August +

Could it be, a meeting was held in Lombok Timur (East Lombok, where the patient comes from) for the youth of that region, to inform them on BF?
I don't think so -- juvenile seems to pretty clearly be referring to the suspected bf patient:
...patient who expected juvenile that come from Kab Lombok Timur....
Could be, though, that the early info on the patient was incorrect/patchy. Just wondered if there could be two suspected cases, though. ??

She could be pregnant?
Yikes! Hope not.

I betcha the early reports just had the age of the patient wrong and there is no juvenile. We'll have to wait and see, I guess.

BTW -- the meeting mentioned in the article was, I think, an emergency meeting of the agricultural/health authorities who are dealing with the problem -- don't think it was a 'socialization' meeting:
Livestock NTB central to be held meeting special discuss about problem.

Re: Indonesia - Human cases, July & August +

This is a total number to date, right? Not the number of current bf suspects in Pekanbaru.... ??

I think you are right, the total to date.

I have three confirmed cases from Riau Province.

A (29F) died 5/3/2007, from Pekanbaru City
Yatino (29M) died 6/12/2007, from Indragiri Hulu Regency
Vivi Sukowati (3F) onset 6/18/2007, recovered, from Pekanbaru City

The Department of Heath in Indonesia also only lists three human cases in Riau. http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showpost.php?p=96836&postcount=27

Two persons have been admitted to hospital on the Indonesian resort island of Bali over suspected bird flu symptoms, local press said Tuesday, adding fear to an outbreak after the death of a woman earlier this month.

A 28-year-old woman who used to work as chicken trader is being treated at the Sanglah Hospital in the Bali capital of Denpasar with pneumonia and other symptoms typical to bird flu, reported leading news website Detikcom.

Another patient is man form Jembrana regency, where a housemother died of bird flu earlier this month to become the first bird flu casualty on the famous resort island.

At the national level, bird flu death toll has reached 83, higher than any other affected countries in the world.

"According to a rapid test, they didn't have bird flu virus. But the rapid test cannot override further diagnoses that lead to bird flu suspicion," said Dr. Ken Wirasandhi with the hospital.

"We have sent their blood samples to Jakarta for further examinations. We are awaiting the result."

The two have been staying in the hospital since Sunday.

Balinese man monitored for bird flu

From correspondents in Jakarta

Article from: Agence France-Presse
<!-- END Story Header Block -->HEALTH authorities on the Indonesian resort island of Bali are monitoring a 58-year-old man showing symptoms of bird flu, a day after another woman is thought to have died of the virus.

Bali has already confirmed one earlier death due to the deadly H5N1 strain of avian flu, prompting officials in the tourism-dependent island to cull more than 6000 fowl and ban the trading and transport of chicken.
"The man, 58, is showing clinical symptoms of bird flu infection, such as high fever and coughing. He has also a history of contact with dead chickens," said Putu Andrika, head of the bird flu control unit at the Sanglah general hospital in Denpasar..
Mr Andrika said the man came from the same Negara district as the first victim, whose infection was confirmed last week after she died.
Samples from the 58-year-old had been sent to Jakarta for testing, Mr Andrika said.
But he said the patient was not suffering respiratory problems, which is another symptom of the disease.
Two tests must return positive for H5N1 before a victim is counted as part of the official bird flu death toll in Indonesia, which is the highest in the world at 83.
Meanwhile, further test results are awaited on the woman who died yesterday, a chicken trader aged 28 whose first test from a local lab came back positive.
H5N1 is endemic in birds across nearly all of Indonesia and was first found in poultry on Bali more than a year ago.
Transmission usually occurs directly from birds to humans.
Scientists worry that the virus will eventually mutate into a form that is much more easily transmissible between humans, triggering a disastrous global pandemic. :tiphat: Coughing is a respiratory problem:rolleyes:
