Angola: Over 380 New Cases of Tuberculosis Registered

Three hundred and eighty one new cases of tuberculosis were registered in the south Bi? province, by local health authorities during this year's first quarter, the provincial health supervisor Isa?as Jos? Chicapa Lemos told ANGOP.

Among the new cases registered, Kuito district tops the list wth 246 cases, Kamacupa with 58, Andulo 25, Chinguar 15, Katabola 14, whilst Kuemba and Chitembo registered nine and two cases, respectively.

The source stressed that, in the same period, they registered 22 deaths caused by tuberculosis, as well as 130 recoveries from the illness.

The supervisor pointed out that the high number of tuberculosis is being caused by exaggerated alcohol consumption.

He referred that the health posts have enough medicine for patients.

Isa?as Chicapa Lemos said that the provincial health administration is also working in order to increase health posts foreseeing the treating kock's bacillus, aimed at decreasing the number of tuberculosis cases in the district.

He also informed that the programme of fight against tuberculosis counts on the assistance of the Italian NGO "Physicians with Africa", for the supply of medicine and training of personnel.

Tuberculosis Cases Increase In Zaire Province


Mbanza Kongo, 05/24 ? The northern Zaire Province recorded in the first quarter of this year 292 cases of tuberculosis, three of them resulting in death, on Wednesday announced the supervisor of the programme against this illness.

Eduardo Kikaia said the majority of the cases were recorded in the Districts of Mbanza-Kongo and Soyo, and this is due to bad nutrition of the rural population, mostly composed by Angolans who returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This figure represents a rise of 22 cases in comparison to the year 2006, during which 10 patients of this illness, said the source.

Angola: 54 New Cases of Tuberculosis Recorded

Some 54 new cases of Tuberculosis, without death, were recorded over the last five months in various health centres in Chibia district, 45 kilometres south of Lubango city, southern Huila province.

This is less by two cases as compared with the same period of 2006, Angop learned.

The local chief of health's division, Sebasti?o Ant?nio, said that out of mentioned number of cases, 40 are undergoing home treatment, eight have dropped medical care, whereas six others have fully recovered from the disease. The official blamed poor nutrition and hard working, coupled with over excessive intake of alcohol for the emergence of the cases.

He also noted that the local hospital has enough medicines to respond to any diseases as well as any eventual cases.

In order to fight the disease, the local health division has been developing, along with communities, awareness campaigns on the treatment of the disease and its symptoms.
