Humans:

• Egypt - Two children have tested positive for the deadly H5N1 bird flu virus. Note: the number of cases of avian flu since the disease appeared in Egypt totals 31 cases, of which 13 died and 13 recovered; five cases are currently hospitalized, including three children at Manshiet Bakry Hospital in Cairo
• Turkey - Five children hospitalized for possible bird flu
• Indonesia - Doctor who treated confirmed/deceased patient is hospitalized for suspected bird flu. Tests are pending. Officials cautioned against speculation about human-to-human tranmission

Poultry: ​

• Vietnam’s southernmost province, has reported an outbreak of bird flu. More than 100 ducks had died of the disease. All poultry in the infected area have been killed.
• Kuwait said on Saturday that it has confirmed 39 new cases of the deadly H5N1 strain of birdflu, raising the total number to 96. The infected birds mainly came from three farms in the southern region of Wafra near the Saudi border.

• Indonesia's Minister of Health comments about the sensitive issue of autopsies and denies H5N1 is currently spreading human-to-human.

• Emergence of Influenza A Virus Variants after Prolonged Shedding from Pheasants. Researchers confirmedthat 20% of pheasants shed low-pathogenic influenza virusesfor prolonged periods. The virus isolated 41 days postinfection wasantigenically distinct from the parental H10 virus, with correspondingchanges in the HA and neuraminidase.

  • Java - The condition of four patients in Bandung improved. Initial laboratory test are positive for a 23-year old Indonesian woman from Central Jakarta who died on Sunday evening at the hospital of Persahabatan in East Jakarta.
  • Indoensia's CFR (case fatality rate) is 78% as of April 1st - death toll is 72.
  • West Sumatra, Padang - 4 children from Padang suspected bird flu patients
  • East Kalimantan - 4 children in one family are bird flu suspect cases - 2 have died and 2 are hospitalized - tests to confirm H5N1 are pending.

• Turkey - Five children hospitalized for possible bird flu tested negative and were released on April 1st.
• Kuwait City. Four Bangladeshi workers who had been culling chickens infected with bird flu were admitted to hospital in Kuwait with flu-like symptoms Tuesday, the health ministry said. Preliminary tests prove positive for avian influenza and will be sent for confirmation. An earlier report (on April 2nd) indicates that "medical check-up" of a Bengali group found no avian flu. • Saudia Arabia - Suspicion of human avian influenza infection of a 16 year old young man who had brought 12 chickens from Medina. Farm birds are being tested for avain influenza.
• Egypt - List of officially confirmed cases as of Apr 2, 2007 has been corrected/updated.
• Indonesia - Health Ministry Summary of Bird Flu Cases April 4 2007 - With the addition of 1 new case, on April 3 2007, 92 cases confirmed positive, including 72 deaths - the death rate or Case Fatality Rate (CFR) reached 78.26%.
• Indonesia - A 15-year-old girl, from central Jakarta, was suspected of having avian influenza, as an initial laboratory test showed that she was positive of the disease, per the Indonesian Health Ministry on Wednesday.
• Indonesia - Java - A man was 29 years old from Sukoharjo was treated in RS Dr Moewardi Solo - the patient is suspected of being infected with bird flu based upon clinical signs and exposure to dead chickens near his residence.

• Indonesia said Wednesday it was ready to resume sending bird flu virus strain to the World Health Organization. "We will resume the sending of virus sample for the sake of global interests. • Indonesia - Java - An Indonesian man who has developed bird flu symptoms died Thursday at a hospital in the Central Java town of Solo and could be the 73rd bird flu casualty in the country if his blood sample is tested positive.
• Indonesia - East Kalimantan - Two children in one family died and were suspected of having bird flu, however, the tests are negative; the remaining family members were released from the hospital.
• Indonesia - Sumatra - RS M. Djamil Padang, West Sumatra, was still treating 3 bird flu patients. Two of them have begun to improve. Three patients suspect the bird flu was Alfina (5), Muhammad Zia Ul Haq (2) and Nisa Rahma Hani (5 months).
• Kuwait - Four Bangladeshi workers who had initially tested positive for bird flu in Kuwait have been cleared of the disease after further tests.
• An Egyptian anti-H5N1 committee said that the two human bird flu cases detected at a house were caused by contacts with infected birds. It denied that the reported cases were caused by human-to-human transmission.

  • Sumatra - As many as 12 cities and the regency were stated as "endemic" (avian influenza). Raisya, a 4 years old suspected bird flu case, was still being treated in isolated intensive care at the Hospital of M. Jamil Padang.
    
  • Sulawesi - A male child have the initials "Mt" that was one years old it was suspected was infected by bird flu. Since April 2, "Mt" has been in intensive care in the Hospital (RS) Doctor Wahidin Sudiro Husodo, Makassar.

  • A two year old girl has tested positive for bird flu, bringing to 33 the number of human cases in the most populous Arab country. Three recovered patients have left the hospital.

• Cambodia - A 13-year-old girl has died of bird flu in Cambodia on April 5th, the country's seventh fatality from the H5N1 virus, the health ministry and the World Health Organisation (WHO) said Friday. It was the first human case of bird flu in Cambodia so far this year.
