H5N1 virus in Abkhazia

31.01.07 20:25

The first case of H5N1 virus has been fixed in Gudauta a week ago. Examinations have been carried out by Russian experts. They are monitoring a coast of the sea but do not spread an information.

Fixation of this virus in Gudauta is linked with its spreading in Krasnodar territory. Abkhazian de facto government hides this information from the population but people asks for help because of massive cases of Bird Flu.

Existence of this virus in Abkhazia threats to other territories of Georgia too.

Abkhaz veterinary service denies reports of Georgian television on bird flu in Abkhazia

Abkhaz authorities deny reports of Rustavi 2 TV-Channel on a bird flu outbreak in the republic. The channel informed that cases of bird flu were registered in Gudaut District and insists that Abkhaz authorities conceal facts of a bird flu outbreak and, possibly, the outbreak came to neighboring Russia?s Krasnodar Territory from Abkhazia. As a REGNUM correspondent in Sokhumi informs, Abkhaz State Veterinary Service called the Rustavi 2 report a fiction.

It is worth mentioning, all security measures are taken on the Russian-Abkhaz on the Psou River: motor vehicles that cross the border are subjected to disinfection, the Georgian-Abkhaz border on the Inguri River was closed and import of poultry and products was banned since the beginning of last year, when an avian influenza outbreak was registered in Georgia.
