In 2006 through the Arkhangyelsk province the inactive overflight of geese is observed. On this to correspondent IA regnum reported the chief of the northern branch OF VNII of hunting economy and fur farming Vladimir Korepanov.

"If in the recent years it was possible to observe, as it flies over during the day immediately several flocks, then in this year it is possible to meet 1-2 small flocks during the day only. There is the assumption that the migratory birds stay thus far in the southern regions, sensing cold in order its in the case not to return back. One additional assumption - with the overflight of bird simply they pass Arkhangelsk. In the previous years in the southern regions of region the large accumulations of birds were observed towards 9-10 May, in this year there are no as yet these accumulations, and this to the best, since will be the probability of infection bird influenza it decreases. At the end of May black goose and barnacle goose must fly, and if them we do not see, which means, they accurately passed Arkhangelsk", he said.

Same thing up here in Qu?bec, as I speak today we had about 5% of migratory birds we have usually.

I drove up and down the corrider four times between Portland and Seattle the last two days.

I saw very few (2) raptors in a drive where there is normally 1 per 20 miles.

I saw only a few black birds (ravens? crows? starlings?

I saw no flock of nothing.

Only singles a pigeon here, an egret there.

Spooky.

ARKHANGELSK. May 6 (Interfax) - H5 bird flu antibodies have been found in the blood of a wild goose shot for testing outside Arkhangelsk, Nikolai Yuferev, the chief expert from the Arkhangelsk regional veterinary department, told Interfax.
The find indicates that either the goose had contact with a sick bird or was sick itself, Yuferev said. "It would be premature to make conclusions from this single fact," he said. The combination of H5 and N1 antibodies are dangerous to humans, but the laboratory equipment in Arkhangelsk is inadequate for more specific tests, Yuferev said. The amount of samples provided to the laboratory was insufficient for comprehensive tests, he said. The heads of local governments in Severodvinsk and the Nyandoma district have been notified about the bird flu antibodies in the goose.
New test shootings of wild birds will be held in the near future. The hunting season in the Arkhangelsk region opens on May 7.

Hunting season starts May 7th.

Lets say, you randomly shoot a bird prior to hunting season that appears to be healthy... test it.... and it comes up with H5N1. What would your conclusions be?

Mine are threefold:

1) If you randomly shoot a bird and it has H5N1 = Lots of H5N1 around.

2) If you shot a bird that had "antibodies" and was still flying like a healthy bird = Antibody development may start before the symptomatic phase happens OR this goose had some ability or immunity to fight H5N1.

3) What are the implications of hunting in H5N1 endemic areas? = More research needed.

Am I correct in reading this article? I believe it says that H5 has been found. "Further tests" needed for N1?

I'm in Michigan, in the country, we normally have loads of wildlife, deer, wild turkeys, raccoons, possum, turtles, muskrats, groundhogs, coyote, fox and lots of birds.

This year we have the deer, d*mned muskrat, fox & groundhogs, but so far everything else is noticably small in numbers or completely absent.

One exception is mosquitos, I've never, in my entire life, seen so many mosquitos.
