my graphics (logarithmical ordinate):
penicillin against pneumonia since 1942.
no very big peak for the 1957 or 1968 pandemics.
smoother curve since 1982, but also increasing again, despite vaccinations.Last edited by gsgs; October 13, 2007, 10:12 AM.I'm interested in expert panflu damage estimates

Re: United States mortality rate for influenza and pneumonia from 1900-1998
even discarding the pandemic,
people in USA in the 20s had a 0.15% chance per year to die from
pneumonia or influenza.
Today it's only 0.03%
so, just an ancient 'normal' influenza year like 1917 or 1925
would be considered catastrophic these days.
Worse than the pandemics in 1957 or 1968.I'm interested in expert panflu damage estimates
