Bird flu made it to Vietnam
    13 August 2020, 10:35

1,040 birds have been killed at a poultry farm in the northern region of Chau Dien due to an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1, the Vietnamese Animal Health Department said. Bird flu made it to Vietnam

The source of the infection has not yet been identified, officials said. Viet Nam has killed more than 150,000 birds since the beginning of the year in several outbreaks of H5N6 and H5N1 avian influenza. There are 460 million poultry in the country, according to data released in 2019, but in some provinces, only 20% of birds have been vaccinated against the virus.

However, this new outbreak poses risks not only to the Vietnamese poultry industry, but also to neighboring Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. Recently, outbreaks of bird flu have been reported in Russia, Australia and the Philippines.
