  • Reported swine flu cases on the decline

    (14-01-2010)
HA NOI — The A/H1N1 flu pandemic was easing with the number of suspected and positive A/H1N1 flu cases declining dramatically during recent weeks, said National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology director Nguyen Tran Hien.
Hien was speaking at a weekly meeting of the steering committee for A/H1N1 flu prevention yesterday.
"The rate of people being positive with A/H1N1 virus among suspected cases in hospitals has reduced to 30 per cent and only 4 per cent of testing samples in laboratories were positive," Hien said.
The comment followed no swine flu case being diagnosed in the country during the first week of the year.
Deputy Minister of Health Trinh Quan Huan confirmed that prevention activities would still be given priority because the country still faced the threat of A/H5N1 and A/H1N1 flu and even seasonal flu and foot-hand-mouth diseases in the spring.
"Transmittable disease prevention should be carried out continuously from year to year," Huan said.
The health ministry asked the World Health Organisation to send vaccines to Viet Nam.
"The vaccine will be used for high-risk group only, including pregnant women and medical staff," Huan said. — VNS
