    RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -
A major announcement by the Virginia Department of Health on Wednesday - it will start testing mosquitoes for the Zika Virus.

The state has set up mosquito traps in ten locations around Virginia, including one in the Richmond area. Those bugs will then go to the state health lab to be tested.

The department says the threat is increasing and there are two big concerns right now: making sure Virginia mosquitoes don't get Zika and making sure men who are infected don't sexually transmit the disease to women.

All of the 38 known Zika Virus cases confirmed in Virginia were contracted outside of the country, but State Health Commissioner Dr. Marissa Levine says the disease could soon, and likely will, be much closer to home. It would happen if a person carrying the virus was bitten by a mosquito here and that mosquito bit another person.
