    Meningitis in Newcastle High School Confirmed

    Wyoming Department of Health and Weston County School District officials have been notified of a few related cases of viral meningitis in Newcastle High School in the past week.

    Viral meningitis is an infection of a person?s brain and spinal fluid caused by a virus. Although the symptoms are similar to bacterial meningitis, viral meningitis is generally less severe.

    If your child is suspected of being ill Do not send them to school as they will be sent back home. If your child (or yourself) experience a low-grade fever, cold, rash, increased tiredness, irritablility, loss of appetite or vomiting see you health care provider.

    To help prevent catching the disease, have your children frequently wash hands, don?t use the drinking fountains at school, stay away from other persons that may be ill. This virus can be passed by bodily fluids (saliva, nasal fluids or throat material).
